Students Visit Their Legislators on Beacon Hill

Thanks to the hard work of the Cotting School Government Affairs Committee, 48 legislators and aides visited Cotting School in December 2005 and January 2006. We still hear from legislators that they enjoyed meeting our students.
This May, thanks to planning by the committee, our students are traveling to the State House to talk with a number of the legislators who had visited Cotting School. Students will see, first hand how state government works. Legislators will learn more about the needs of our students. Nine Cotting classrooms will visit Senators Augustus, Buoniconti, Havern, Tolman, Panagiotakos, Fargo, Timilty and Antonioni, as well as Representative DeLeo, who is Chairman of House Ways and Means.
On May 2, 2007, Senator Stephen J. Buonoconti met with five children from Cotting School at the Massachusetts State House. The Cotting School students continued a dialogue about state government, which began when Senator Buonoconti visited to their school. Cotting School is America's first day school for children with a broad spectrum of learning disabilities, communication impairments, physical challenges, and complex medical conditions.
