Founded as the Industrial School for Crippled and Deformed Children in 1893, Cotting School is America’s first school for children with special needs. For nearly 115 years, Cotting School has been a leader in the evolution and revolution of providing groundbreaking and effective services to children with a broad spectrum of learning and communications disabilities, physical challenges, and complex medical conditions. This 1920s photo was used in a brochure titled, “Life Stories, Written by Themselves.” The photograph is titled, “Wheelchair Cases at the Picnic.”
