About Us Information for prospective students and families

Who will work with my child?

At Cotting, there are no boilerplate solutions; each child is different, and it takes the expertise of various professionals to “put all the pieces of the puzzle together.” Students at the School may have moderate to severe learning disabilities, multiple physical challenges, or complex communication problems that demand special attention. They may have a medical condition that requires close monitoring or post-traumatic injuries that require rehabilitation. The goal is to help children maximize their independence and to create solutions that allow them to “accomplish what they need to do in a day.” At Cotting, each professional plays an essential and critical role in the effort to create a learning environment and strategies for daily living that work for their students.

Faculty and staff members continually share and develop their areas of expertise. Seventy-five percent of the professional staff hold advanced degrees. On-going staff development and training ensure that instructors and clinicians keep pace with the latest developments in special education. To complement the work done in the classroom by certified special education instructors, there are many clinical and support faculty.
